INTRODUCTION

The workplace in the Philippines has changed fundamentally as employee expectations, technological advancements, and evolving demands continue to reshape how organizations operate and compete. Faced with this reality, how should organizations balance evolving needs with the need to maintain productivity and business results?
In partnership with International Workplace Group (IWG), Asia Select recently hosted an executive panel discussion titled “Modern Workplace Strategies: Turning Workforce Preferences into Business Advantage” at SPACES World Plaza in Bonifacio Global City.
The event brought together senior leaders from diverse industries to examine how organizations can transform evolving workforce expectations to measurable business outcomes. Setting the tone of the conversation, Gene Gañgan, GICD, Chief Operating Officer of ZMG Ward Howell, shared critical observations on modern workplace strategies that shifted the discussion, focusing on practical strategies for designing work environments and policies that support employee preferences while driving organizational performance.

The panel featured distinguished leaders, including Shine Rodriguez, Southeast Asia Lead for Talent Acquisition at Mondelēz International; Michel Andre, Chief Operating Officer at BNP Paribas CIB; Rowena Bravo-Natividad, Country Manager of IWG; Ivy Paraluman De Borja, Vice President of Human Resources at RealPage Inc.; and Josef Ayson, Talent Solutions Growth Lead for Aon Philippines. Throughout the discussion, panelists shared firsthand experiences and actionable insights on how businesses can create workplace strategies that foster stronger employee engagement, improve retention, enhance performance, and empower greater workforce independence. Major themes concerned the critical role of flexibility, the contribution of workplace design to productivity and collaborative outcomes, and mechanisms for balancing employee expectations with corporate priorities. Presenters observed that proactive workplace policies materially strengthen an employer’s ability to attract and retain talent amid heightened market competition.
The panel emphasized that workplace preferences have evolved from employee perks into strategic business imperatives. From flexible hours to thoughtfully designed workspaces, these factors can directly affect an organization’s operational performance and market position. As a result, decisions about work models, office design, and people policies must be treated as core strategic choices rather than HR add-ons.

In today’s competitive market, organizations can longer afford to view workplace decisions as secondary considerations. Leaders must move beyond traditional workplace models and embrace strategies that balance employee expectations with organizational goals, creating environments that shape talent, outcomes, business growth, and long-term success.
QUICK RECAP
The event showed that when organizations treat workplace preferences as strategic levers, they see real business benefits like lower turnover costs, better performance, and a stronger position in tight labor markets. By convening leaders from operations, HR, talent acquisition, workforce solutions, and workplace strategy, the panel offered attendees a rounded set of perspective and practical approaches for navigating the future of work and designing environments in which both employees and businesses thrive.
